Sidemen: Long Road to Glory lovingly tells the story of three of America’s most skilled (and most unheralded) blues musicians, so-called “sidemen” piano player Pinetop Perkins, drummer Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, and guitarist Hubert Sumlin, who played for decades with Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf. The film vividly captures interviews and performances by the three blues legends, who performed and recorded into their eighties and nineties, as well as testimony from the blues and rock stars they inspired, including Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, Robby Krieger of The Doors, and Bonnie Raitt.
